The Hope HB130 is the second bike to come out of the Barnoldswick bike works. Born, once again out of a desire to build a bike the guys at Hope wanted to ride, the engineers and designers have managed to create a bike they believe is an ultimate all-rounder. Hope wanted a bike to defeat the local technical climbs but still tackle favourite Lake District descents and trail centre laps. Geometry is key with the HB.130 and with the angles we’ve chosen, the bike is playful yet controllable in whatever situation you get into on the trail. The bike rolls on 29er wheels and features 130mm of rear travel, which creates a bike that chews up technical climbs, rips along the flats then thrashes the downs. Notice the HB.130’s designers have paid particular attention to the aesthetics of the bike. The front triangle has a curvaceous, sleek look while the rear triangle retains that trademark Hope CNC look with beautifully engineered and machined chain stays. Hope Tech – UK Carbon Production There’s a wealth of knowledge around carbon fibre in the UK, with the majority of the current F1 teams being based here as well as a thriving aerospace industry. This gives Hope access to some of the worlds most talented carbon fibre engineers. The challenge was taking their skill at producing batches of two components, and scaling it up to production quantites. Since Hope’s existing products are manufactured using the processes most companies only use to produce their first prototypes ie CNC machined rather than cast or precision forged, it’s not been an unusual experience for Hope.
